Welcome

This template is a task tracking system with an optional automation layer. At its core it is a place to capture tasks, organize them, and actually get things done. The automation side handles recurring tasks, automatically creating new ones when you finish the last.

You do not need to use every feature here. In fact, you probably should not, at least not right away.

Start simple

The most common mistake with task trackers is building the perfect system before you have any idea what you actually need. You end up managing the system instead of your work.

Start with the basics: a task name and a status. That is enough to get value from day one. Add fields and structure as real problems come up, not in anticipation of them.

Some things worth keeping in mind:

Capture first, organize later. When something comes to mind, get it written down. Refine it later. A messy list you actually use beats a beautiful system you abandoned.

Not everything deserves a task. If you can do it in two minutes, just do it. If you will never actually do it, cancel it now. Your task list should reflect real intentions, not wishes.

Review it regularly. A task tracker only works if you check it. Even a quick daily scan of what is open keeps you oriented. Without that habit, the list becomes a graveyard.

Trust the system. The whole point is to get things out of your head and into a place you trust. If you have to remember things on top of using the tracker, it is not working yet.

About this template

There is a lot here. Recurring task automation, area and pursuit tracking, priority and effort fields, due date history, status icons, and more. You do not have to use any of it that does not fit how you work.

Hide columns you do not care about. Remove fields you will never fill in. The full template stays available if you want to reference it or bring something back later.

The usage guides in this wiki explain how each part works when you are ready for it.

Build your own style

The guides here reflect one way of using this system. Your work and your habits are different from anyone else's, and your task tracker should reflect that over time.
